Nunc Dimittis

It’s the wrong time of year, I know, but I was leafing through some old notes yesterday and rediscovered this poem by Denise Levertov. It’s beautiful, simple, and needs no comment from me. Enjoy:

Candlemas

With certitude
Simeon opened
ancient arms
to infant light.
Decades
before the cross, the tomb
and the new life,
he knew
new life.
What depth
of faith he drew on,
turning illumined
towards deep night.
